Note: This is an "EXPLORATORY" trip. This means that there are parts of this trip, or perhaps the whole trip, that is new to your Trip Leader(s). However, they are confident that this will not be an issue.
This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

We will meet at the satellite parking area on Columns Drive at the north end of the Cochran Shoals unit.  There are restrooms and a picnic area and we will meet right there.

Beginning from the Cochran Shoals parking lot, we will pass the information board and walk along the wide, gravel Fitness Trail that follows the river, then head into the woods, going from Cochran Shoals up to Sope Creek pond, and return back and continue further down on Cochran Shoals and return back to the parking lot following the Fitness Trail for the final 3/4 mile.

Lisa and I have done these trails before as 2 separate hikes, but have decided to do as one big hike, covering 8 miles at a moderate pace.  Elevation gain / loss is 117 feet.  We will be walking over fine gravel, wooden boardwalks, compact dirt, and sandy floodplain.  Some of the trails we will be taking will be shared with bikers.
