Itinerary:

Join us for a moderate hike along the Broad River Trail in the Lake Russell Wildlife Management area.  Originally built by the Civilian Conservation Corps
in 1939, the Broad River Trail was reopened by
the Youth Conservation Corps in 1980.

The first mile of the path parallels Dicks Creek;
quick, clear, and cascading like a mountain
stream before the path meanders through the coves and valleys along the Middle Fork of the Broad River.
After the trail turns to follow the Broad River it begins to wind in and out of nearby hills. At times the trail narrows and is high on steep drops. In many places the river can only be heard, but at times the path approaches and runs alongside the waterway.

There is about 300-400 feet of elevation loss/gain and the scenery changes with a few surprises along the way.  We will have lunch at the four mile mark and then hike back to our cars.  While this is not a difficult hike, it is not for beginners due to some of the terrain.

The last five miles of the road to the trailhead is a well maintained gravel forest service road.  It is fine for most cars.  Because of limited parking at the trailhead; all are encouraged to carpool.
