Itinerary:

Come experience some of the tasks needed to maintain the Appalachian trail from Springer Mtn. to Mt.Katadhin in Maine. The principals and tasks are the same for the thousands of miles this trail runs from Georgia to Maine.

This last trip before winter to this section of the Appalachian trail, Don Norton and I maintain, is to clean out water bars for good trail drainage and any weeding that may be done; plus check the water trail down from the shelter at Hawk Mtn. I have an unmentionable task I must perform as well that has to do with the privy close to the shelter; It has to be done every time I visit our section, noone else need help with this sacred duty.

It shouldnt take more than several hours, four at most, (depending on amount of people helping) to perform all tasks needed on this last trip to the trail before a cold winter. Join me and learn what it takes to maintain this valuable national resource used by many thousands of hikers and backpackers from south to north.

Required Items to Bring:
A few of us will need to bring grass scythes (swing blades)-I have one, someone can use; and I have a couple of shovels - to use to clean out several waterbars on the trail up the mountain.
If any of you have a swing blade or shovel-square or round blade; it will be welcome to aid in our tasks. We only need three total swing blades-three to four shovels for the group.
clothes appropriate for temperatures for protection from cold.
Supportive shoes for rocky trails on the way up the Mountain.
2 liters of water and/or gatorade
