Itinerary:

Join us for an evening hike to celebrate the Summer Solstice - the day on which the sun sets at its northernmost point on the horizon. The 2013 Summer Solstice occurs at 5:04 a.m. on June 21, but we will enjoy the sunset at 8:50 p.m. from the top of Stone Mountain.

We will meet in front of the Confederate Hall
restrooms at 7:55 p.m. for introductions before we head to the top to enjoy the view and the sunset. On the ascent, we will hike at a moderate pace on a side trail, rather than on the heavily traveled walk-up trail.  We will gain about 650 feet of elevation in just over one mile. Your TL and those with strong legs will climb the very steep portion of the mountain closest to the fence, but you will also have the option to connect to the walk up trail at the half way point and use the handrails for the steep section.

We will be walking down after sunset, so please bring a small LED flashlight or headlamp.

Free parking is available at MARTA PARK n RIDE parking lot. From there, it is less than a half mile walk to the west gate park entrance near our meeting spot.

Please take the time to look at the park map and your parking options in order to be on time.

This event will be cancelled in the event of severe weather.
