Itinerary:
Beginner (Class I)

The Chestatee River was once home to the Cherokee. When gold-hungry settlers came, they were forced west of the river, then marched on the infamous Trail of Tears. After the gold-rush, the river was returned to nature, once again. Today, a float along the rivers quiet beauty is a pleasant break from the frantic pace of everyday life. The trip downstream from our Outpost is our most popular trip, especially for first time canoers and kayakers, families and large groups. There are several fun but gentle rapids, great scenery and good fishing. Something for everyone!

We will be canoeing about 6 miles which should take approximately 2 ½ hours.

Required Items to Bring:

On the river wear clothing you dont mind getting wet or dirty. Bring a change of clothes for after your trip. Wear something on your feet for protection - old running shoes, sandals or river shoes - NOT Flip-Flops! Dress according to the weather. Shorts, bathing suit and t-shirts are great for hot days and wind breakers, wool or nylon shirts for cool days.

Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.

Food or snacks in unbreakable containers. Bring plenty to drink on hot days, sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, change of clothes for ride home, waterproof camera, small cooler to attach to canoe (with bungee cords)

Sun protection, sunblock, hat and sunglasses.
Waterproof watch.
Leave all unneeded items like wallets, keys, pagers, etc. behind. They have a safe place to leave car keys at the outpost while youre on the river.

Do not bring:
· Alcoholic beverages.
· Large coolers, styrofoam coolers, glass bottles.
· Radios, non-waterproof cameras.
· Glass
