Itinerary:

Join me for a pleasant walk by this populare Chattahoochee River National Park unit. Enjoy viewing the unique honking music and the river dance of the Canadian Geese, and see wood ducks and eastern bluebirds residing there as I did on my checkout walk. The environs include many small wooded hills and rock shelters as we walk by the River.

After checking the hike out I chose loops totaling 3 1/2 miles that starts by the nice Ranger station that houses a nice book and map store. The walk will start down by the river and follow it for more than half the hike before walking up a moderate hill and following wooded hills trail back down to the river and back to our cars. We will take proper time to enjoy the river entertainment of the Canadian Geese, and nature in general.

There is much evidence that the parks pine tree population has been decimated by pine beetles, but enough deciduous trees remain, plus entertaining Canadian geese in the river, to make this unit interesting and scenic. Its also a great birding park in warmer months especially; a great place you'll like to visit in spring and summer, once familiar with this park. There will be with plenty of day left on Saturday to get on with the rest of your days plans when hike is finished.

This hike is different than most as we will all meet at the Island Ford Chattahoochee River unit parking lot. If any of you have friends going that can carpool with; that will help to take up less spaces in the parking areas here.
