Itinerary:

Come join me on a wonderful hike at Cochran Mill as we conquer all the trails!   My first hike with the AOC was here at Cochran Mill (exactly one year ago) and led by the wonderful and energetic Melissa.  Her friendliness and zeal for the outdoors helped to start a desire within me to hit the trails - and that has grown into a love of hiking and for the Atlanta Outdoor Club!  I've asked her to join me as co-lead on this hike as we show off this lesser known park to others.

Cochran Mills - West Side Trails

We’ll be hiking just about all of the trails of the Cochran Mill Park.  After meeting promptly at 9:00 AM in the parking loop we'll hit the West Side Trails - Some of the sites include an old unmarked cemetery, one easy crossing over Bear Creek and culminating at the little known, but lovely Henry Mills Falls.  After taking a short break there, we'll return along somewhat different trails, cross back over Bear Creek and then follow the trails to the parking area where we'll be able to take a short restroom break.

Cochran Mills - East Side Trails

After our short break, we'll cross the road and cover all the trails on the East Side.  We’ll enjoy the Cochran Mill Falls, wonderful scenic wooded trails, a few wonderful dams (including one used for a pivotal scene in season 2 of The Walking Dead), and wonderful views alongside Little Bear Creek and Bear Creek.

***The total hike distance will be around 11 miles and we’ll be hiking at a moderate pace – this is NOT a hike for beginners***

(Optional) Lunch and Cupcakes!

We have now earned our lunch and cupcakes!  We'll have a short drive of only 7 miles over to the Blue Eyed Daisy Bakery in Serenbe, GA.  The Blue Eyed Daisy Bakery won an episode of Cupcake Wars but you'll also find they have a great lunch menu as well. After the hike, it is optional if you would like to join us for some cupcakes, but I do hope you can join us for our well-earned lunch and tasty desserts.  Please keep in mind that most of the carpool drivers will be staying for lunch... so plan accordingly.
