Itinerary:

We'll be adding this as a second event to our Cherokee Trail hike at 5:45.  If that one is too early for you, hopefully you'll be able to make the sunset hike.  The weather should be great!  Let's hope for a brilliant photo session!

Feel free to bring snacks to share for sunset.

Sunset is at 8:40, so we will be hiking down as it gets dark.  Bring either a flashlight or a head lamp to help illiuminate the walk down.

We'll start from the Confederate Hall parking lot just inside the West Gate entrance.  There is a bath house with a large paved area there.  I have a group that will be hiking around the Cherokee Trail before the sunset hike, so please don't be alarmed if you're there and I'm not!  I'll meet you by 7:45!

We'll leave promptly at 7:45, in order to be at the top as the sun goes down.

Be warned:   Though this is a D2 hike, it isn't easy!  It's a relentless climb up to the top. If you aren't good with elevation, this might be too strenuous for you, especially since we can't go too slowly.  The sunset won't wait for us.

GPS Coordinates: 33.81076800026398, -84.16212379932403

Parking in the park lot:  $10

Directions: To the main entrance- From I-285 take U.S. Hwy 78 East (Snellville/Athens) exit. Travel about 7 miles and take Exit 8, the Stone Mountain Park Main Entrance. After entering the main entrance, proceed straight ahead. The road will fork at about 1 mile – stay to the right. Continue to follow the road for another mile. Confederate Hall will be on your left. The parking lot will be immediately after. We’ll meet at the bathhouse on the other side of the lot from the Confederate Hall.

You can also enter through the West Gate entrance  in Stone Mountain Village, which puts you right at the parking lot we'll be using.  If you enter here, turn right through the gate and you're just about in the Confederate Hall parking lot.  We'll be on the right (as you look at the mountain) at the bathhouse.
