Vogel State Park is a beautiful park especially in the fall. We will hike the Bear Hair Gap Trail, a 4.1 miles partial loop up and over the lower ridges of Blood Mountain, with another 1/2 mile side trail to the overlook of Trahlyta Lake. Part of the trail is rocky, but most of it is dirt. There are some very large and interesting boulders along the way, and we will cross a few small creeks. After that we can wind down with the 1.0 mile trail around the lake with a spur trail off the dam which leads to an observation deck below the dam's spillway. One of the more photographed views in North Georgia is of Blood and Slaughter Mountains taken from the bridge over the dam spillway. Total miles about 6.

Meet at the carpool, head up to Vogel; park beside the lake which is across the street from the Visitor's Center. Get parking passes for each vehicle as needed. The start of the trail isn't too far from the park visitor's office.

Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $56.00 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Notes:

There is a $5.00 State Park fee per vehicle that can be bought at the park visitor's office.

Please arrive a few minutes early. We will leave the carpool at 9:00 am so if you're running late you will need to meet us at Vogel.

* We encourage all members to follow our Etiquette Guidelines while participating in AOC events.

Cost Includes:

$5.00 per vehicle for parking if you don't have a yearly State Parks Pass.

Cancellation/Partial Attendance: Please review the AOC cancellation policy.

Only in the case of severe weather such as thunderstorms will the hike be canceled.
