Itinerary:

It's my favorite time of the year! Let's take a brisk morning walk through my neighborhood and enjoy all it has to offer.

We will meet promptly at 9 a.m. at the 14th Street gate in Piedmont Park.  This gate can be found at the intersection of Piedmont Road and 14th Street.  Please give yourself plenty of time to get here, especially if you are not familiar with the neighborhood.

There is paid parking on Piedmont nearby, or you can take your chances with the Evil Park Atlanta and park on one of the side streets. (I do not advise this option, but if you do use it, please pay careful attention to signs and parking meters.  Those tickets are not cheap.)  If you take MARTA to the park, the closest station is Arts Center.  Google Maps is great at telling you how to find things via MARTA, or you can email me for tips.

Since this event is on a Saturday, we can first take a quick walk over to the Piedmont Park Green Market where people who choose to do so can buy some zucchini bread to snack on or some fresh veggies (remember you will have to carry whatever you buy and do not immediately consume).  Once we've killed a couple of minutes here, we will do a little loop around some of my favorite parts of the Park and onto the future Beltline Section which will lead us over to the paved Eastside Trail.  We will walk the Eastside Trail until Irwin Street, where we can stop at the Market and grab lunch or snacks (your options include tacos and burritos, soups and ice cream, among others).  If the group would like to do so, we can take a detour on the way to Irwin Street onto the Freedom Park Trail and up to my favorite coffee place on North Highland, Java Vino.  This is a 1.35 mile detour, if we choose to take it.

After our stop at Irwin Street, we will double back along the Eastside Trail section we have hiked and reenter Piedmont Park on the 10th Street side, then walk back to the 14th Street gate that way.

The total distance will be 7 - 8.5 miles, depending on whether we take the optional detour.
