Itinerary:

Bring your camera and join Divya and myself for a wonderful fall hike to the top of breathtaking Blood Mountain.   We’ll start our trek on the Byron Herbert Reece trail and then follow the Freeman Gap trail to the top.  Once we summit, we’ll spend around 30 minutes enjoying the views (and our snacks) from the overlook areas.  There are two main picture opportunities – at the table rock located next to the shelter and as we start back down, near the US Geological marker.  We’ll take our time at both places to enjoy the views and snap photos.  We’ll then follow the AT back down to the Freeman Gap where we’ll again take the Reece Trail back to the parking area.

This will still be a moderately paced mountain hike and should be kept in mind before you sign up – so it is not a hike for beginners.  Also, we will keep our group together at all times – so if you love running ahead, or are not wanting to spend extra time on top of the mountain, this hike is not for you.

After the event, we’ll head back down to Dahlonega to Pueblo's for an late lunch/early dinner for those who want to eat and make merry!  If you are riding in a carpool please plan on staying for this.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

Leaving from the Mansell Park and Ride, head north on GA 400. Continue on US 19/GA 60 once GA 400 ends. Take the bypass through Dahlonega. Stay on US 19. Once you reach Walasi-Yi Inn you will be a quarter of a mile from the Byron Herbert Reece parking lot which is on the left. The road into the lot is one way. If you have reached Vogel State Park you have gone too far.

There is limited parking lot at the Bryon Herbert Reece lot. If there are not sufficient spaces we will shuttle from Vogel State Park (just down the road). Please plan on at least 4 people per vehicle.
