Itinerary:

The federal government shutdown precluded us from doing this event the last time around. Saturday is looking like and ideal day to attempt this again.  So, join me for this leisurely hike and possible fall foliage observance event at the beautiful Buford dam/Lake Lanier.

We will meet at 9:45 am for check-in and introductions at the Lower Overlook Parking Lot (see Event Directions below).

We will start our hike promptly at 10:00 am and hike along the Laurel Ridge Trail in a counterclockwise direction and take a side trip to the bottom of the dam and a pedestrian bridge over the Chattahoochee River.  Our total hiking distance will be a little over 4 miles. The trail offers nice views of the dam, the river, and Lake Lanier, so you may want to bring your camera.

Special thanks Tom and Courtney Harjung, who led this event in 2012 . Here's Courtney's photo album from a previous year's attendance of this event. https://picasaweb.google.com/116047776368239884613/BufordDamHikeSwim?authuser=0&authkey=Gv1sRgCMi9pfuu7MGDcA&feat=directlink

Carpool Cost: Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $20.00 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Notes:

I encourage folks to carpool, if at all possible, due to limited parking spaces available at the lower overlook parking area.

Cancellation/Partial Attendance:   Please review the AOC cancellation policy.
*Note:

I may cancel the entire event if there will be unpleasant weather conditions in the forecast.
