Itinerary:
New to the Atlanta Outdoor Club? Been waiting for the right event to try out the club? This is the perfect first event!

Please read the entire event page carefully!

Red Top Mountain State Park is located on a peninsula on Lake Allatoona. It offers many recreational opportunities including boating and camping. There is an abundance of wildlife (arrive early to read the information at the visitors center). The Homestead trail is a very nice day hike. It is about five and a half miles with enough distance and hills to get your heart pumping. We will walk through the forest, along a creek, and beside the lake.

Please read our difficulty ratings before signing up. While this is a newcomer event, it is NOT for people who are new to hiking. My pace tends to be average and most participants from past events would agree. There are forks along the way where we will stop to take breaks and keep the group together. Otherwise I usually stop only when the group requests it.

Prior to hiking, we will have a Q&A session about the club. Bring any questions you may have such as what overnight events are like and how to become a trip leader. Also feel free to bring a guest.

You are welcome to bring your dog along on this event. S/He must be well-behaved and friendly toward people and other dogs. The trip leader(s) reserve the right to disallow any dog from participation. According to park rules dogs must be on a 6-foot leash at all times. Please do not use a telescoping leash because they tangle with other hikers.

In case of rain, this event will be canceled. Please contact the trip leaders for weather info.

Note to long-time members:
Please respect that this hike is only for new members. We appreciate our loyal participants very much. However one complaint from new members is how difficult it is to join trips. Hopefully this will give them the chance to see what you already know: this is a great club!
If you like, sign up and I will move you to the waiting list. If the trip is not full with new members after the registration cutoff, then I will add you back to the participant list.

The event is full but don't be discouraged. YOU CAN STILL GET IN! Join the wait list. Many times spots will become available. If not we will at least know that there is high demand for these events and post another!
