Itinerary:

Rather than cancel this morning's hike (the trails at East Palisades are very muddy after rain and not suitable for hiking), Divya and Joyce are changing the location of the hike to Sope Creek.  The trails at this location have lots of fallen leaves, so mud isn't so much an issue.  It will be a safe place to hike, and safety is always foremost as far as your trip leaders are concerned.

We're keeping everyone on the hike who signed up for East Palisades, but we will certainly understand if folks decide to drop the hike because of the change in location or because of the wet ground.

The Sope Creek parking lot off PaperMill Road is a more secluded entrance to the Cochran Shoals area of the Chattahoochee NRA. We'll hike 4-5 miles along the trails, and get in a good workout.  Please remember to bring $3 cash for the National Park Service parking fee, unless you have a Chattahoochee NRA annual pass.

If you bring your dog, it should be able to keep up with the group and interact well with other dogs and people. The Chattahoochee NRA requires that owners keep their dogs on a leash and clean up after their pets on the trails. Please be willing to keep your dog on leash out of consideration to other hikers -- and because it's the law.

Limit of 3 dogs, please!

Required Items to Bring:

Hiking Shoes (waterproof if you have them) and water

Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.

Hiiking Poles are highly recommended due to the slippery leaves

The weather will be warm, but we'll possibly encounter a shower as the front finishes its pass through the area. Bring a rain jacket if you want need to stay dry.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

From I-75:

Take the Delk Road Exit (261) and travel east, crossing Powers Ferry Road
Delk Road ends at Terrell Mill Road.  Turn left onto Terrell Mill Road
Turn right onto Paper Mill Road (about 1 mile)
Park entrance is 1.1 miles on the right

From Johnson Ferry Road

Depending upon your direction on Johnson Ferry Road, either cross the Chattahoochee River traveling north and turn east at the traffic light on Paper Mill Road, or turn east at Paper Mill Road before you get to the bridge into Fulton County.
Travel the winding road all the way until you cross the Sope Creek Bridge.
Once you cross the bridge, the park entrance will be about 1/4 mile on your left.

Notes:

Don't forget to bring $3 cash for parking if you don't have an annual pass.

Please cancel right away if you don't want to hike at Sope Creek!
