Itinerary:

Join us on this fun and story filled Urban Hike which will begin and end at The Varsity downtown.   We will stop often and learn some of our city's history from Bobby who is a tour guide with City Segway Tours of Atlanta.  We'll be on foot for about 5 miles and take in the sights on and near Peachtree Street, Downtown and Five Points with a loop to the Capitol.

We will stop and sightsee along the way and have plenty of photo ops.  Park at or near the Varsity and we'll meet just inside the East main Door near the restrooms and Ice Cream Counter. Please be there a bit before 3:00pm for introductions and a nice on time start! Bring a light as we will start in daylight and finish after dark and wear appropriate clothes/shoes for urban walking and visibility!

Leaving The Varsity we will walk to The Fox Theatre and then head south where we'll pass Gladys Knight & Ron Wynan's Chicken & Waffles.  We'll continue south on Peachtree Street to The Marriott Marquis with its 52 story atrium, the largest in the world at its completion in 1985 and the very design that made John Portman famous; find out why this building is nicknamed The Pregnant Building.  We'll walk by The Candler Building where you will learn why Mr. Candler only allowed his Mom to be dropped off by her chauffeur on the east side of his office building.  Next we'll pass Underground Atlanta as we make our way to the Georgia State Capitol building.  From here we will head back north through the Lucky/Marietta and Fairly/Poplar Districts where we will walk by the Skyview Ferris Wheel, through Centennial Olympic Park and Pemberton Place, then back to The Varsity for a fun Varsity experience.

Directions:
The Varsity is right across the I-75/85 Connector from Georgia Tech at North Avenue.

From Southbound 75/85: Get off at exit 249D, turn left and you will see The Varsity on the left immediately across the bridge.

From Northbound 75/85: Get off at exit 249D, go across Spring St. to West Peachtree St. and turn left. Go to North Ave. and turn left again. Follow North Ave. until you see The Varsity on the right.


From Marta: On the North-South Line, get off at North Ave station and go west on North Ave until you see The Varsity on the right.
