Itinerary:

Cloudland Canyon State Park

Join me for the first of four hikes to Georgia's most scenic state parks.

This hike is roughly 6-7 miles, with a couple of steep grades and 1,148 steps.

Please bring a lunch and we'll stop somewhere along the trail to eat.

"Located on the western edge of Lookout Mountain, this is one of the most scenic parks in the state, offering rugged geology and beautiful vistas. The park straddles a deep gorge cut into the mountain by Sitton Gulch Creek, and elevation differs from 800 to 1,980 feet. The most spectacular view into the canyon is found near the picnic area parking lot; however, additional views can be found along the rim trail. Hardy visitors who hike to the bottom of the gorge (including a 600-step staircase) find two waterfalls cascading over layers of sandstone and shale into pools below. (For visitor safety, wading in pools and climbing on waterfalls is not allowed.)" ( Georgia State Parks - Cloudland Canyon)

The Canyon Climbers Club is designed to provide a challenge to the park visitor who wants to both get some exercise and enjoy the great outdoors. To participate, have a special card (purchased for $10 at each of the four participating state parks) punched at the park visitor's center each time you acoomplish one of the outlined tasks.
  • Cloudland Canyon (1,148 steps)
  • Amicalola Falls (2,000 steps)
  • Providence Canyon (2,000 steps)
  • Tallulah Gorge (610 steps)

Once they have visited all four parks and had their card punched by rangers, hikers can redeem it for a t-shirt and bragging rights. No time limit applies, so hikers can take as long as they wish to visit all four parks.
