Itinerary:

This event covers two loops that connect for a figure 8 that are popular for backpacking but make for a nice long day hike. This gives the rare opportunity to hike 30 miles with repeating almost no terrain. The only out and back sections are the walk to the McDill Overlook and the very start of the trail from the parking area.


This is a great hike over a variety of terrain. There are mountain overlooks, boulder fields, creeks ,and a couple of small waterfalls along the way. There aren't many large hills but they do add up due to the length of the hike additionally there are several creek crossing that may be wet but none of them are very wide or deep.

Please make sure that if you sign up for this that you have prior experience with long distances like this. We will be keeping up a steady relatively quick pace to make sure that we finish around dusk. With that being said it is recommended to have a headlamp/flashlight with you in case we don't quite make it.

 Parking will be at the Cheaha trailhead

From Interstate-20. Take exit # 191. Turn South on U.S. Highway 431 for approximately four miles, then turn on the access road to get to Highway 281 South to the Park, go 13 miles on 281.(Watch for the Cheaha Resort State Park Signs).

Carpool Cost: Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $66.80 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.
