Itinerary:
Our hike begins at the Rice Camp parking lot, the northern terminus of the East Cowpen Trail. We will follow East Cowpen 4.7 miles to its intersection with Panther Creek Trail. The elevation gain for this section of trail is about 2,000 feet, most of it in the first mile. We will then walk down Panther Creek Trail until it dead ends at Conasauga River Trail, for a distance of 3.7 miles and an elevation loss of about 1,800 feet. Along the way we will negotiate a boulder field right next to Panther Creek Falls. At the end of the trail we will cross the Conasauga River (hopefully without getting our feet wet), and follow Conasauga River Trail 0.4 miles to Bray Field, where we will spend the night. The following day we will ford the Conasauga River and follow Hickory Creek Trail 5.7 miles back to our cars.
