Itinerary:

The vicinity of the Chattahoochee River was inhabited in prehistoric times by native Americans since at least 8000 BC. Among the historical nations, the Chattahoochee served as a dividing line between the Creek Indians on the South side and the Cherokee on teh north side of the river.

Join me on a hike which will cover 10000 years of history right along the Chattahoochee river. Michael Hitt will be our tour guide as he takes us on this tour to 3 important locations along the river that carve out a picture of history.

We begin by walking from Riverside Park across to Vickery Creekl where we will see the infamous cliff area that scare many of us, but this time form the opposite banks of the creek. This used to be a shelter thousands of years ago. Then we will retrace our steps back to Riverside park. Did you know there stood a village at that very spot! From there we proceed along Riverside drive to see an Indian Mound. Michael has some really interesting information and literature about its significance.

This will be a leisurely paced hike. Part of the hike will be on soft trails and most of it will be on a well-paved trails. We will spend about 5-7 minutes at each location before we continue, so this will not be a continuously moving hike.

Let's walk along the river that was once inhabited by an indigenious nation!
