Amicalola Falls State ParkJoin me for the 2nd of four hikes to Georgia's most scenic state parks. It takes a little over an hour to drive up to the park. We'll meet at the visitor's center where everyone can gather to see nature displays, live exhibits and a gift shop. Around 10am, we'll cross the parking lot and hike up the Creek and Mt. Laurel Loop trial. This hike is a moderate 3 mile loop, with a couple of steep grades and 600 steps. Everyone is free to hike at their own pace up to the top of the falls. We will gather at the overlook/bridge and rest for a few minutes. Restrooms and drink machines are available here. We will then hike around by the lodge and downhill about one mile back to the Visitors Center. "It's easy to see why this is one of Georgia's most popular state parks. Amicalola, a Cherokee Indian word meaning "tumbling waters," is an appropriate name for these 729-foot falls ~~ the tallest cascading waterfall east of the Mississippi River." Carpool Cost: | Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $42.40 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances. | ||||||
