NEW MEMBERS & BEGINNERS WELCOME!

This series is designed to be a fun way to ease oneself into the world of hiking and The Great Outdoors. Maybe you have only walked to get from one point to another and not sure what hiking is all about. Perhaps you are a bit timid about heading into the woods with a group of people you don't know. Maybe you aren't sure if you have the "right" gear for an outdoor adventure. Or maybe you're an avid hiker and would like to mix things up with a slower-paced walk closer to home. Whatever the reason, these walks are a great way to get out and stretch your legs while meeting new people and checking out a local park you may not have known about. Who knows? Maybe a few of these parks are just around the corner from you!

If you are a new member with the AOC, or if you are a Beginner/Novice hiker please feel free to sign up. This will be a great way to get to know the AOC and others interested in hiking. Veteran hikers you are also welcome to sign up. This will be a relaxing change from your D5 hikes while getting to know a local park and meet new members.

Join me on this Wednesday afternoon for a hike around Chastain Park. There are approximately 5 miles of trails that border this area.

We will meet at the "storm shelter"(a small covered bus stop-like area) at the north end of the Red Parking lot. This is next to the Amphitheater so it should be easy for everyone to locate.

We'll start our hike on the east side of the park following the entire length of the park and cross Nancy Creek. There will be points of interest along the way and hopefully nice weather as well! Chastain Park is Fulton County's largest public park. You may have attended a concert at this location before, but there are other events held here as well.

PLENTY OF WATER TO STAY HYDRATED!!!! comfortable clothes and shoes, and a smile : )

We will meet in the parking lot at the corner of Elliott Galloway Way & Powers Ferry Rd NW.

This address will help if using a GPS: 4469 Stella Drive NW, Atlanta GA 30327.

From south of Chastain Park, go north on Roswell Road to W Wieuca Road NW.

From north of Chastain Park, go south on Roswell Road to W Wieuca Road NW.

Turn onto Wieuca Road and cross over Lake Forrest Road. This will take you through the park.

Continue west on West Wieuca Road to Powers Ferry Road.

Turn right on Powers Ferry and turn into parking lot on right immediately before Elliott Galloway Way.

Look for the small, wood covered bus stop at the North end of the parking lot.

Notes:

A couple dogs may be allowed as long as they are leashed and well-behaved. Please be prepared to clean up behind your pet to help keep the park nice for everyone.
