Itinerary:

There are no excuses for NOT going on this hike, especially if you're a beginner to hiking.  We'll take a leisurely pace and enjoy friendly conversation and beautiful scenery.  If you're a camera buff, there will be many photo opportunities as we circle this lovely park dedicated to the memory of Leita Thompson.  (You can read her story on bronze plaques near the pavilion.) The trail around Leita Thompson "undulates," but there is nothing steep.  The trail is wide and even, so it's a really great place for a safe hike.  We can stop periodically if needed, though our pace will not be challenging.  If you've never hiked with the AOC because of the fear of holding people back, this hike is for you!

This park is a big surprise to folks who see it for the first time.  Many people drive past it every day, never realizing what a charming area it is for hiking.

This is a dog-friendly park, with many dogs on the trail.  You are welcome to bring your dog as long as you keep it on leash and clean up any messes that it makes.  There is a fenced in "off leash" area if you'd like for your dog to be able to run free and play with other dogs.

A little more information on the park:

There are no bathrooms, but there are three sets of porta-johns throughout the park.

We will start the hike on time, so please arrive 5 - 10 minutes early, in case you have to park your car in the overflow lot about 1/8 mile from the pavilion lot.  We'll introduce ourselves, get a group photo, and be off!  Please call or text me if you are running late so that I will know if you'll be trying to catch up with us.  My number is 404-788-4089.  Be sure to identify yourself by name if you leave me a message.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

N 34.06315,  W -84.40678

1523 Woodstock Rd

Roswell, GA 30075

It's best to use maps.google.com and map directions from your destination. You can go to maps.google.com and enter the bold text below in to the search bar. If you chose Satelite View, you can see a birdseye view of the parking lot.

There are three entrances to the area:  one for the dog park, the second for the arts center building, and the third for the walking trails.  We will be waiting at this third entrance.  There is a green roofed pavillion very close to Woodstock Rd. at this third entrance. You can see it easily from the road and it says "Leita Thompson Pavillion." There is a road on the East side of that and it leads directly to our parking area.

You may want to (or need to) park in the overflow parking lot that can be accessed from the main lot if the main lot is full.  It's only 1/8 of a mile down a shaded road.
