Itinerary:

Join me for a Saturday morning hike in search of a satisfying drink of water at Burnt Hickory Road’s Water Fountain.  Our journey begins at 9:00am at Kennesaw Mountain’s Visitor Center. After introductions we start our roughly 6 mile out and back journey to Burnt Hickory's Water Fountain.

We'll begin with a sharp accent up Big Kennesaw Mountain. Over the first mile we will hike about 700ft of elevation gain. After reaching the top be sure to step on the mountain top plaque for good luck.  After our plaque step we will begin our decent of about 500 ft. down the back side of the mountain. Careful here, it’s very rocky terrain going down.  After we hit the gap between Big and Little Kennesaw we climb up 300 ft. to the top of Little Kennesaw.  From here it’s all downhill. We travel down the back side of Little Kennesaw over rocky terrain then roughly another mile to pigeon hill and down to Burnt Hickory Road.

As we cross Burnt Hickory road we will have reached our goal, the Bubbler, Drinking Fountain, Water Fountain, Benson Bubbler or as I call it a place to get a drink.  After we enjoy a thirst quenching drink of water and those interested in taking a picture or two, you never know when you’ll see a bubbler again, we’ll head back the way we came. Be prepared the climb back is equally as challenging. Maybe more so due to being a bit tired.

Keep in mind this route is a frequently traveled by club members. All are free to go their own pace so we will get spread out.

Beginner's are welcome, but be sure you have the ablity to complete a 6 mile strenuous hike.

Trivia: Did you know that not only did the Beatles come from Liverpool England but so did the first Water Fountain dating back to the mid 1800’s.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

1) I-75 North to exit 267B Hwy 5 Canton Road Connector

2) If you are not heading west after getting off of the Interstate you are going the wrong way.  You should be heading towards US 41 and downtown Marietta after getting off of I-75 onto the Canton Road Connector and see Kennesaw Mountain on your right.

3) You will be tempted to take the first exit off of the Canton Road Connector which is US 41, but do not take it.  Proceed over US 41 on a bridge staying on the Canton Road Connector.

4) After crossing US 41 take a right at the first redlight which is Church Street Extension.

5) You should cross railroad tracks soon.

6) Take a left onto Old 41 at the second redlight.  If you get to US 41 again, you have missed the turn onto Old 41 so turn around.

7) Stay on Old US 41 until you pass in front of the mountain then turn left at the redlight and park in the main visitor center lot if you can.  If full head back out to Old 41, take a left and park in the new parking lot farther down the road on the left.

Notes:

1) We will begin our hike sharply at 9:00am please be on time

2) If the main parking lot iis full allow a few extra minutes to walk over from the overflow lot.

3) This is a rain or shine event
