Itinerary:

I'm calling this an old-fashioned hike because it's the pace I enjoyed when I first began hiking with the AOC - - before the fast paced/fitness hikes that have become so popular today.  We'll take this at a moderate pace - - not leisurely, but certainly not fast.  If folks need to stop for a rest, we'll take as much time as needed to do so.  It's a good hike for those who want a relatively flat trail.

This is a great hike for beginners and vets who just want to stretch their legs, get their blood circulating a little, enjoy the beauty of the Georgia spring weather, and meet up with some friendly people.  It will not be a long hike, and it will definitely not be too strenuous.

This is part of the Chattahoochee National Recreation Area, so a $3 parking fee (bring cash) is required - - unless you have an annual pass.  There is a bathroom available at this location.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

Directions

Roswell
Take Roswell Rd. South to Dalrymple Rd and turn right. (If you don't know Dalrymple, Roswell Rd. is where Spaulding Dr. becomes Dalrymple Road.) Dalrymple Road becomes Riverside Drive, then makes a graceful curve to the left and begins to parallel the Chattahoochee River. At Johnson Ferry turn right. At the first light, turn right into the Johnsons Ferry parking lot.  Do NOT enter Columns Drive!

Atlanta
Take I-285 to exit 24, Riverside Road. At the end of the ramp, turn left if you were on I-285 East, right if you were on I-285 west. Travel 2.4 miles on Riverside Road. After a marked 15 mph curve to the left, you almost immediately come up to the light at Johnson Ferry Road. Turn left and cross the Chattahoochee River. At the next traffic light (for Columns Dr.), turn right into the Johnsons Ferry CRNRA parking lot.  Do NOT enter Columns Drive!

From East Cobb area

Take Papermill Road to Johnson Ferry Road.  Turn right.  In less than a mile, turn left into the parking lot for Johnsons Ferry North.  It is at the traffic light, across the street from Columns Drive. Do NOT enter Columns Drive!

Notes:

Since this is a CNRArea, dogs are required to be on leash at all times.

$3.00 cash for parking your car if you don't have an annual pass.
