Itinerary:

Join me for our weekly Kennesaw mid-day hike. This week  “Kat”Trena will not be joining us and you know what they say “While the Kat’s away the hikers will not work so hard.”

We will take our hike from a D4 fast hike to a D3 moderate paced stroll. To accomplish this we will be knocking off our return trip up the back side of Little and Big Kennesaw. Not to mention the knee pain journey down Big Kennesaw. How we do that? Read on.

As usual we will begin at Kennesaw Mountain’s Visitor Center. After brief introductions we start our still roughly 6 mile journey on the West trail. We begin with the sharp accent up Big Kennesaw Mountain with 700 feet of elevation gain.  From there we descend about 500 ft. then climb 300 feet up Little Kennesaw.  From here it’s all downhill crossing pigeon hill to Burnt Hickory Road.

At Burt Hickory we will grab a quick drink and start our journey back.

We will begin with our climb up Pigeon Hill. Before we get to the top we will change course and take a right on the East trail. The East trail is roughly a flat 3 mile trail that heads back to the Visitor Center.  We will proceed at a casual pace and celebrate our “Kat” free day.

As usual all are free to go their own pace so we may get spread out. I plan on staying with the group for the entire hike.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

1) I-75 North to exit 267B Hwy 5 Canton Road Connector

2) If you are not heading west after getting off of the Interstate you are going the wrong way.  You should be heading towards US 41 and downtown Marietta after getting off of I-75 onto the Canton Road Connector and see Kennesaw Mountain on your right.

3) You will be tempted to take the first exit off of the Canton Road Connector which is US 41, but do not take it.  Proceed over US 41 on a bridge staying on the Canton Road Connector.

4) After crossing US 41 take a right at the first redlight which is Church Street Extension.

5) You should cross railroad tracks soon.

6) Take a left onto Old 41 at the second redlight.  If you get to US 41 again, you have missed the turn onto Old 41 so turn around.

7) Stay on Old US 41 until you pass in front of the mountain then turn left at the redlight and park in the main visitor center lot if you can.  If full head back out to Old 41, take a left and park in the overflow parking lot farther down the road on the left.

Notes:

The hike will start on time. Please arrive 5-10 minutes early to check in.
