Itinerary:

Join me for a photo walk on and around Arabia Mountain. Like Stone Mountain, Arabia Mountain is a granite monadnock nearly 400 million years old. The area has unique plant life, wild life, spectacular geological formations, and interesting signs of human history.  For more check out this link: http://arabiaalliance.org/

This walk will focus on taking interesting photos around Arabia Mountain and some great sunset photos. If you're new to photography, I will share some info about three essential features of any camera - ISO, apeture, and shutter speed. These are three controls in every camera that help create the photo. Understanding how they work is important to creating good images.

I am an amatuer photographer with many years of experience. I've shot and developed B&W, color, slide, film & digital in cameras of many sizes. I can help you with other questions about photography. Website - http://jchristophe3.wix.com/photography

The hike is open to any level of amateur photographer. Bring your point-and-shoot, SLR, or DSLR for some photographic fun! Check out the following link for some photographic inspiration: http://arabiaalliance.org/educate/photo-galleries/

Please make sure to bring a flashlight and sturdy shoes. We will be there until after dark and the footing can be rocky & slippery.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

ARABIA MOUNTAIN is in the SE corner of DeKalb County (east of Atlanta near Lithonia, GA and I-20). There is a very tricky route from exit 74 off I20. Alternative, there may be a much easier route if you take exit 75 off of I20. I've included directions for both and I recommend you check out Google maps. If you haven't been to Arabia before, please study these before driving.
**************
1) The very, very tricky route is confusing because of long off ramp with multiple turn offs. The surface roads change names and have a few tricky turns.

A) From Atlanta or I-285 proceed eastbound on I-20 to exit #74 (Evans Mill Rd/Lithonia).

B) Veer right onto the ramp leading to Evans Mill Rd. Continue on this ramp (yes, it remains a ramp) for about 1 mile through one traffic light (intersection for Lithonia Industrial Blvd) and through another intersection (with a left turn).

C) After these intersections, the ramp will fork and a secondary ramp that veers to the right will appear. DO NOT take this right turn! Stay straight on the ramp and continue to the large intersection next to the highway overpass (on the left) at the ramps end.

D) At the traffic light turn right onto Evans Mills road. You will immediately see another traffic light in front of you. At the traffic light, go straight through and onto Woodrow Road. DO NOT turn and follow Evans Mill. Yes, it's one of those Atlanta roads where the name of the road turns at an intersection.

E) Continue on Woodrow Road about 1 mile to a stop sign at Klondike Road. Turn right onto Klondike Road and travel approximately 1 mile. You will cross Rockland Road as you circle through a roundabout. Exit the roundabout on the opposite side as if you drove straigt acros Rockland.

F) Continue 1 more mile to the Arabia Mountain Nature Center on the right. Once you enter, you'll see the center to the left, parking on the left and right. The lot to the right is very large and has plenty of parking.

******************
2) The easier route goes exits right by past the Mall at Stonecrest. You follow one main road to a roundabout and turn south. The nature center will be on your right just after the round about.

A) From Atlanta or I-285 proceed eastbound on I-20 to exit #75 (Turner Hill Rd).

B) Follow Turner Hill Rd south as it passes the mall. You'll go into a residential area and the road will veer west and change names from Turner Hill into Roackland rd. Keep following Rockland Rd until you reach a roundabout intersection and Kondike Rd.

C) Take Klondike Rd south and the Arabia Mountain Nature Center will be on your right within a few hundred yards.

We'll gather in next to the Kiosk in front of the Nature Center.
