Itinerary:

Come and find out why Panthertown Valley (http://www.panthertown.org) is referred to as the Yosemite of the East.  The carpool will leave Saturday at 7:30am.  For anyone that likes to arrive fashionably late, you will only find a desolate parking lot.  It is about a 2.5 hour drive to Cashiers NC and the west parking lot.

Panthertown Valley has a maze of trails.  The trails are well maintained with abundant natural beauty.  We will make our way to the Overlook Trail and stop for lunch with a view.  Then proceeding through the maze of trails we will hit several waterfalls...  Riding Ford Falls, Schoolhouse Falls & Greenland Creek Falls before setting up camp for the night in the Southeast corner of Panthertown Valley.  All told we will hike ~7 miles at a reasonable pace making short stops at intersection and having a few minutes for photos at the waterfalls.  There is not much in the way of steep grades but please be comfortable carrying a pack for that distance at 1.5+ mph.  Sunday after breakfast we will head out back to the cars.  Along the way we will stop at Granny Burrell Falls, Frolicktown Fall & Wilderness Falls.  Sunday there will be about 5 miles to hike.

PLEASE CONTACT A TRIP LEADER IF YOU HAVE NOT GONE BACKPACKING BEFORE OR UNSURE ABOUT ATTENDING!

In Cashiers we will stop for lunch at the Carolina Smokehouse for some BBQ (http://www.thecarolinasmokehouse.com) for a late lunch.  After lunch we will proceed home in the early afternoon.

If you were counting that is 6 waterfalls in 1 weekend!  Plus, as a bonus, there are another 4 (Jawbone Falls, Warden's Falls, Pothole Falls & Mac's Falls) which we may goto depending on time and the groups attitude.

Required Items to Bring:

- Food for 1 X Lunch, 1 X Dinner & 1 X Breakfast plus plenty of snacks.

- Backpack, after all, this is a backpacking event!

- Change of dry clothes... or two (for the love of God bring a change of clothes)!

- Sleeping bag, tent, hammock, camp chair, futon, etc to relax in.

- All the standard backpacking gear... Knife, rope, shovel, rain gear, duct tape, bug spray, sun screen, personal items, stove, pot (for cooking; NC is not CO), first aid kit, flashlight, etc, etc, etc.

- Water.  You do NOT need enough for the entire trip.  There will also be at least 1 Steripen available to purify water on trail.  Since we are going to see more waterfalls than you can shake a stick at, I suspec there will be no shortage of finding place to purify water.
