Itinerary:

Wild by Cheryl StrayedApril 23rd is World Book Night, where volunteers from around the country distribute free books to promote reading.  This year I decided to volunteer, and will be giving out free copies of Wild by Cheryl Strayed after the hike.  The book is the memoir of a woman who decides to hike the Pacific Crest Trail after suffering a big loss.  You can find out more about Wild at www.hudsonbooksellers.com/book/9780307476074 and more about World Book Night at www.us.worldbooknight.org/.

Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park is a fantastic area for intown hiking. It contains over 16 miles of trails and has many historic battle sites.

Today we will be hiking from Burnt Hickory Road to the Illinois monument and back to Burnt Hickory Road to our parked cars. While they do have some moderate inclines, these trails are not as strenuous as going up and down the mountain itself. This is a good choice for beginners or those who are just looking for a fairly easy after work hike.

Please note we will NOT be hiking up or down Kennesaw Mountain.

Although this is rated as a Moderate hike due to miles and some elevation gain, it is suitable for Beginners as we will be hiking at a moderate pace with a small break at the Illinois Monument.

We will meet at the parking area on Burnt Hickory Road @ 6pm, introduce ourselves, and start hiking.
