Itinerary:

Conasauga RiverThe Conasauga River is in the scenic Cohutta Wilderness near Cisco, Georgia. This section of the trail is an easy in & out (~5 mi. total) with 6 river crossings each way - nothing wild, but sometimes waist deep and usually slippery. We recommend a sturdy hiking stick for the crossings.

We have an unmarked lunch area on some large, flat boulders in the middle of the river.  This pristine section of the river is so remote we probably won't see another hiker.

After lunch we leave our gear and river-walk/rock-hop up this peaceful portion of the river, enjoying the small waterfalls, butt-slides, and swimming holes. Or if you like, just lie on the rocks and read a book. We'll hang out here for 2 full hours before heading back to the cars for some cold watermelon :)

A favorite part our annual Conasauga trip is dinner at Little Rome in Chatsworth. Good, home-made Italian food; large portions and very low prices. If the weather cooperates, we sit outside.

Pace: Even the slowest hiker can make this one.  We don't permit jackrabbits since there's a good deal of fun to be had at the crossings.  We make each crossing as a group.

Equipment: Be prepared to do the hike portion without changing shoes or attire. Quick-dry clothing or a bathing suit works well. River shoes or an old pair of sneakers should be fine unless you prefer boots for some reason.  No flip-flops though.  If you want to change into your favorite skimpy bikini or Speed-O at lunch, that's fine!
