Note: This is an "EXPLORATORY" trip. This means that there are parts of this trip, or perhaps the whole trip, that is new to your Trip Leader(s). However, they are confident that this will not be an issue.
This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

Come join Joyce and me as we explore all of the Garland Mountain Horse and Hike Trails.  Located in Cherokee County, the park is immaculately maintained by the Cherokee County Saddle Club and open to horsemen and hikers only.  The various trails are named after horse coat color or pattern (Palomino, Sorrel, Dun, Pinto, Chestnut and Roan) and are some of the best blazed trails we've ever seen.  Do not be concerned about horse nuggets – there are not that many and they are easily avoided (really).  Dogs are allowed (up to 4) – but MUST remain on a leash and cannot be spooked by horses!

We'll stop for a break on the trail at one of the nice picnic areas and plan on having a picnic lunch after the hike at the pavilion area located at the trailhead - -  so bring a cooler with your lunch, for use after we finish the hike. (Something to share with the group is always nice!)

If you are not an experienced hiker, or do not have previous D4 experience, this hike may be too strenuous for you, as we are covering around 14 miles.  The TLs on this hike will contact hikers who do not have recent D4 experience, and reserve the right to remove any person from the list they deem unfit for this hike.  This is for the safety of the individual hiker as well as to ensure the entire group can maintain an appropriate pace.

Notes:

Dogs must be on a leash at ALL times and cannot be the type to be spooked by horses.  If you are not sure, then please don't bring them.

We will keep our group together for this hike and ask that no one go ahead of the Trip Leader.

By the way, did you know that hikers give way to horsemen by stepping over to the lower side of the trail?  This is less intimidating to the horses as they pass by.
