Itinerary:

The 2014 AOC Officers would like to invite our newer members out to meet us while enjoying a nice hike. This is a great opportunity to come out and see what the AOC is all about. The most noteworthy feedback we received from a previous "Meet the Officers" newcomers hike was that new members liked coming out because they knew they weren't going to be the only brand new person there. We are there to meet you, give you some tips about AOC and answer any questions you have.

This will be a D2 leisurely paced hike, nothing fast and we won't leave anyone behind.  We'll cover about three miles.

We will use the following method to assist our newer members in reserving a spot on this newcomer hike:  anyone who has been on 5 or less events is welcome to sign up as soon as the trip opens.  If you have attended more than 5 events and would still like to go on this event, sign up and we will place you on the waitlist.  After the event sign up closes, if there are still spots available we will move you back onto the list in the order you signed up.  We will send a confirmation email to notify those who make the list.

If you bring a dog, please make sure that it is on a 6 foot leash, can keep up with the group, and that it plays well with others.  You will need to bring extra water for your dog and be prepared to bag any messes s/he makes on the trail.

We will start on time, so please arrive 5-10 minutes early to check in.  Restrooms are not available at this trailhead.

Please remember to bring $3 cash (no change available) for the National Park Service parking fee, unless you have a Chattahoochee NRA annual pass.

Required Items to Bring:

Water, Gatorade, or whatever you like to keep hydrated (important)

Comfortable walking shoes (hiking boots, trail runners, or tennis shoes recommended)

Snacks to fuel yourself

Sunscreen/bug spray

Weather appropriate clothing (moisture wicking fabrics are wonderful)

Epi pen/inhaler if you need one

Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

The parking lot is at the end of Akers Ridge Dr SE. There are signs pointing you to the National Park...it is an official parking lot.

Please get directions from your starting location.

You can get there easily off of 285 or 75 depending on where you're coming from. open maps.google.com and paste the bold text in to the search bar. Then chose Satellite view for a bird's eye view. It's the GREEN arrow on the map.

33.891623, -84.444515

Plug the above coordinates in to your phone or in to your GPS and it will get you there.

A couple of things to note:

You will be coming from Akers Mill Rd. And it will look like you're turning in to an apartment complex with a big water wheel. You are in the right place. Come in that street and then you will see a brown National Parks sign (below). Turn left at the sign and follow the winding road all the way back.

Notes:
* We encourage all members to follow our Etiquette Guidelines while participating in AOC events.
