Itinerary:

Please join me for a beautiful morning hike in Piedmont Park and the Atlanta Eastside Beltline.

We will be meeting in Piedmont Park near the welcome plaza (more info on meet place below).  From there we will walk the newer section of Piedmont Park passing the Promenade, Legacy Fountain and the community gardens.  We will then get on the beltline going through the Old Fourth Ward and Inman Park.  We will do a quick trek to the old Krog Street tunnel which is almost a century old.  This tunnel which connects Inman Park and Cabbagetown shows graffiti by gifted artists and is used as a social calendar for underground events in the city.  Really cool to see.  We will then go over to the Irwin Street Market where we will take a short break for lunch/snacks.  The market is a community kitchen where we can get sandwiches, salads, shish kabobs and great homemade ice cream.  After lunch we will head back on the beltline and re-enter Piedmont Park on the 10th street side.

Total distance for this hike is a little over 7 miles.  We will be walking on 99% pavement with no elevation.  Before signing up please be sure that you are able to keep a steady pace for over 7 miles. Please note that this hike is almost all in the sun.  No shade.  If you are sun sensitive please bring a hat and/or sunscreen.

Where to meet:   We will be meeting at the Welcome Plaza which is between the parking deck, Magnolia Hall and the Promenade. This welcome plaza is a small unmanned kiosk.   Structure is like 4x4.  If you exit the parking deck on the lowest level you will be at our meeting place.  Below is a link to a map of Piedmont Park.  We are meeting between #1, #2 and #3.  NOTE: There is a welcome/visitors center at the 12th Street gate.  If you ask someone in the park for directions to the welcome center they will most likely send you to the 12th Street gate but this is NOT where we are meeting.  Please look at the map on the link below.

Please allow yourself enough time to park and get to our meeting location as we will be leaving on time.

The parking deck as mentioned above can be accessed from Piedmont Ave/Botanical Gardens or from Monroe Drive.  If you enter from Monroe Drive you will enter on the lower level which is where were are meeting.  If you enter the deck from Piedmont you are on the top level.   Below is a link to the parking garage which shows directions and parking fees.

You can also park on a side street but please be mindful of the parking signs and meters.   They do give tickets in this area and they aren't cheap.

If you choose to take MARTA, the closest station is the Arts Center Station.

There is also a parking area at the Park Tavern which is on the corner of 10th Street and Monroe.  There is a fee to park there.
