Itinerary:

Do you still have all that red, white, and blue gear from Memorial Day?   Well, dust it off and bring it back out as we pay our patriotic respects to the good ol' USA on the day she became independent.

This is repeated below, but just so you don't fail to see it, this hike will start promptly at 4!  We will not wait for your arrival.  In fact, we urge you to plan to arrive by 3:30 pm!

This is not a beginner hike, because of the distance and the moderately fast pace.  (Joyce will be leading this one, if that gives you any hint of how fast we might go). It will be very hot and muggy, so we'll adjust the pace accordingly.  We're allowing three hours for the hike, though we will likely finish earlier.  Our goal is to enjoy the hike and celebrate the day.

We'll start the hike at Cochran Shoals and go into the woods towards Sope Creek.  We'll cover many of the trails in the Sope Creek unit, some of them offering some challenging ascents.  Then, we'll return on to Cochran Shoals on a different trail so that you'll get a good taste of what these units have to offer.  Bring plenty of water, because you'll lose a lot during the hike!

If you're too tired to complete the hike, we can drop you off to rest in the cemetery. Although it's a family plot, I'm sure they wouldn't mind sharing their space with you for a while.  (This is a joke! The cemetery is not open to visitors.)

This parking lot can get very crowded, so plan to arrive about 1/2 hour before the start of the hike.  We'll be starting on time, so if you're not with the group, we'll have to leave you behind.  (Something we hate to do!)
