Itinerary:

This will be a moderately paced hike - - not too fast, and not too slow, so that we cover about 6 miles in the two hours allotted.   We'll stop for little breaks along  the way and perhaps take a few pictures, but it will be a good workout hike.  We'll start at the Upper Parking Lot and hike the lollipop trail and other trails heading toward the Visitor Center.  The upper lot is the lot to your left as soon as you pass through the entrance gate.

Island Ford is the main park for the Chattahoochee National Recreation Areas, and you can buy an annual pass here ($35) - - a good idea if you will be doing much hiking with the AOC.  This is possibly the most popular CNRA park because of the beauty of the trails and the proximity to the river.  Plus, it's one of the few parks that actually has a bathroom.

We'll start the hike promptly at 10:30 am.  Arrive at least 5 minutes early to meet everyone before we start and/or to purchase a $3 parking ticket if you don't own an annual pass.

No more than 3 dogs on the hike, so if 3 dogs are already listed, please do not add yours. If you bring your dog, it must be kept on leash at all times.  The reputation of the AOC is damaged when we break the leash law!

If folks are interested, we can plan to eat lunch together after the hike at the nearby North River Tavern, where the Thursday special is burgers for $5.95 (with a drink). They have a very good black bean burger on the menu for those who don't eat red meat, and an awesome Triple Bypass Burger for those who do!    It's very close to the park - - about a 5 minute drive.

Trails can be muddy if there has been recent rain.  Be sure to have shoes with good tread that you don't mind getting dirty.  Waterproof shoes help, too!
