Itinerary:

Join your TL for an adventure to the upper reaches of space or 1,500'.

Fly with a certified instructor pilot by your side for a birds eye view of beautiful Lookout Mountain. All tandem flights are towed to altitude by a special ultra-light aircraft. In-flight photos available.  Once the glider is released from the aircraft, you'll soar for 12 to 20 minutes of flying time from 1,500'.

We will arrive at the flight park Saturday afternoon to make camp. Early Sunday morning (at 9:00am) for the on-ground training/lesson and start hang gliding thereafter. One group will go in the morning and the other group will go in the afternoon.

Directions From Atlanta
* Note: It takes 40 minutes to get to Lookout Mountain Flight Park once you reach Chattanooga, Tennessee.

  • Take I-75 North to Chattanooga.
  • Take I-24 West (Exit 2)
  • Take I-59 South (Exit 167)
  • Get off at Trenton (Exit 11) Turn left at end of exit ramp
  • Turn right at the second stop light onto Hwy. 11
  • Drive 1/10 mile and turn left at the next light onto Route 136
  • Drive 1 mile and turn left onto Piney Road
  • Drive 4.7 miles on Piney Road to the top and turn right at the stop sign onto Route 189
  • The Flight Park Office is 1/2 mile on the right

    I'm estimating the trip time from the carpool will be around two hours drive time depending on 'nooga traffic and pit-stops.

Carpool Cost: Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $80.00 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Notes:

The weight limit for folks flying tandem is 250 pounds max with people between 230-250 pounds needing smoother weather conditions to fly.  If you are in either category notify the TL.


Important information for paid events in which payment is managed through the AOC:

     - Payment must be received by the payment due date and prior to participation in the event.

     - Some paid events require a minimum number of registered participants. If that number is not met, the event will be canceled and refunds will be issued to those who have already paid.

     - Third-party vendors often require damage deposits. Each registrant agrees to be liable for and required to reimburse the Atlanta Outdoor Club for any withheld deposits due to the actions of or damages caused by that registrant.

     - No partial payments. All registrants must pay the posted Member Cost regardless of any agreement you may have with any party involved in the event.

     - Read the event description carefully for additional information, and contact the trip leader(s) with any questions.


* We encourage all members to follow our Etiquette Guidelines while participating in AOC events.

**Groupon had a $99 rate which the outfitter offered to the AOC, camping is included in the price.  You get one flight from 1,500' and camping for $109.  All necessary equipment to FLY is included.


All camping gear is your responsibility.

Payment in full is due 10 days after registration or September 14, 2014, whichever comes first.   You will be moved to the waiting list if you fail to meet this deadline

Payment may be made via PayPal, PC Banking or Check. It is your responsibility to get the deposit payment and/or balance payment to the AOC by the due dates. Allow two days processing for PayPal and PC Banking and ten days for a mailed check.  Member cost is the same if paying by check.

Cancellation/Partial Attendance:   Please review the AOC cancellation policy.
*Note:

If weather causes a cancellation, you will have a credit with the outfitter for up to two years from our scheduled date.  The AOC will not issue a refund.

If you cancel there will be NO refund unless someone from the waitlist replaces you and pays in full.  At that time, you would receive a refund less a $5 administrative fee.
