Itinerary:

We will walk near the buried Colonial Oil pipeline towards Morgan Falls Dam.  Once at the dam, we'll pause 10-15 minutes and skip rocks like we did when we were young.  If we discover any oil, we'll claim it as our own and promptly move to Beverly Hills.

There's a good deal of poison ivy, and a slight chance we might have to bushwhack, so it wouldn't hurt you to wear long pants.  We'll also have to walk on the pipe twice in order to cross two streams, so innate balance is important.  However, the pipe is 40 inches in diameter and the crossing is only 10-15 feet, so it's not as if you have to be Nadia Comăneci to traverse it.

I'm listing this as a D3 to be consistent with a previous listing by another trip leader.  However, there's not much change in elevation compared to a place like Vickery Creek, so if you can handle walking a relatively flat and root-laden trail while enveloped in intense heat and humidity, then you should be good to go.    Seriously, there's not a lot of shade, so bring an outrageously oversized sun hat if you feel the need.  My pace should be a moderate 2.x mph. Feel free to email me to discuss the difficulty if in doubt.

If there's enough interest after the event, we'll hit Tijuana Joe's  for the finest in Americanized Mexican cuisine. http://www.tijuanajoescantina.com/menu

Pipeline trivia: The last oil spill was in 1972.  Two thousand gallons went in the water, one gallon came out, and the sharks took the rest.  February the 2nd, 1972.
