Itinerary:

On the vernal and autumnal equinoxes, the Hike Inn’s Star Base, a massive granite block formation, channels the rising sun through a cylindrical hole to the back of a small cave behind the formation. Viewing this is the purpose of this trip. If getting up that early doesn't interest you, please don't sign up for this trip.

We will hike up to the Inn on Sunday. and get there in time to shower before supper. After a delicious supper there are games and books for our amusement. At sunrise the next morning we will view the sun shine through the Star Base.

After a hearty breakfast we will hike up to Springer mountain to see the southern terminus of the Applatian Trail. For a modest fee the Inn will make us trail lunches to enjoy on Springer. We will then hike back to our cars via the approach trail.

From the Park & Ride we will go north on Georgia 400 past the outlet Mall to GA 53. Left on 53 till slight right on GA 183. At a Y, veer right onto GA 52 Follow 52 until the park entrance on your left. We will stop at the Visitors Center lot to register, then head up the hill to the upper lot and Trailhead.

Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $41.60 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Notes:

$5 Parking Fee unless you have an annual park pass. We should have enough annual passes that this won't apply unless you just want to take your car.

* We encourage all members to follow our Etiquette Guidelines while participating in AOC events.

Cost Includes:

One supper at the Inn, one night's accomodation, and breakfast at the Inn. Trail lunch for Monday on your own.

NOTE: For this event you will pay the Inn directly. Call the reservation agent directly, Beryl Ann at 706 429-0224. Tell her you are with the Atlanta Outdoor Club on Larry Cooper's trip to get this special rate.(saves us about $18 each) The fee is for 2 persons per room. We have 4 rooms reserved for us which is why we have a limit of 8. NOTE, THEY ONLY TAKE PAYMENT FOR THE ENTIRE ROOM SO ONE PERSON PAYS AND GETS HALF FROM THEIR ROOMMATE
