Itinerary:

This loop affectionately known as the "Is That All Ya Got Loop" gives a good sampling of the Southern end of Linville Gorge. We will be using a mix of official trails and unofficial trails along the way. The trails are not always the clearest to follow and may be overgrown in places depending on if there has been any recent trail maintenance. I do have all the tracks on my gps which we can use if needed.

We will be going along the east rim where the highlights will be Table Rock, the Chimneys, and Shortoff mountain.Additionally we will be making our way back through the gorge by the river. Please make sure that you are comfortable with long days with a backpack if you sign up for this. The trip is roughly 23 miles and I hope to do roughly 13-14 of those miles on the first day to get us back at a slightly better time on Sunday. As you might expect with it being a gorge there are some fairly flat sections but any uphill that exists tends to be long and steep.

*Please note that due to the bridge being out we will have to cross the river at either end without the help of a bridge. I have been able to rock hop across on the north end before but you should be prepared to get wet during both crossings of the river.

*Due to this event being so far away the plan is for the carpool to leave Friday afternoon at 1pm. This will allow for an earlier start on Saturday(8am) without the need of a roughly 4am carpool.  The plan is to drive to the Table Rock Parking Lot on Friday night and set up our tents near the lot. There are quite a few sites within a couple hundred yards of the parking area and pit toilets. There is not any water near the parking lot so you should plan on bringing a little extra for that first night/morning.

The last few miles are on a dirt road but I have taken it in a Honda Accord multiple times with no problem.

Carpool to Event Distance (round trip):494Mile(s)
Carpool Departure Time: 1:00 pm

Carpool Cost: Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $197.60 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Notes:

We have the Car pool departure listed as Friday 1:00pm. To help alleviate some work conflicts, we may "tweak" that time a bit. The plan will be to contact participants that have signed up and see what works for all. Hopefully we can satisfy most of the participants schedule, but no guarantee's we can satisfy everyone.

There is no Saturday morning AOC car pool. However If you decide to drive up on Saturday, plan on being at the camp site no later than 8:00am. If there are multiple people wishing to drive up Saturday we would recommend contacting each other and arrange a car pool outside the AOC.

* We encourage all members to follow our Etiquette Guidelines while participating in AOC events.

Cancellation/Partial Attendance:   Please review the AOC cancellation policy.
