Moderate The trip is for beginners, but everyone should be a solid swimmer, with no fear of being underwater or swimming in choppy conditions. Although a guide will be on the trip, everyone must be willing to take responsibility for getting themselves to safety in case of a swim. Previous whitewater experience (canoeing, rafting) is a definite plus, but not necessary. Experienced kayakers with a solid roll are always welcome-just email me by Fri, but no need to sign up below and take up a beginner space on the list. The trip leader will give an hour instruction on kayaking techniques, river reading, safety, river rescue etc before we set off, then we will take time on the river to practice basic whitewater techniques before setting off downstream (note that our leader is not an expert, but does know the basics-hopefully our guide will help as well). The purpose of the trip is to play and learn, so we will stop to play in as many rapids as possible on the way downriver. Depending on water level, participant experience and time, we may run the standard section twice, or put in 1.5 hours upriver of the normal start in an easier section and do a single run. We also have the option of going further down the river and running larger rapids. Rapids are Class I-III at current water levels. The outfitter is River Right (riverright.com). We will have a guide with us for safety. We will be on the water for at least 4 hours, so with shuttle time, etc, we will probably be ready to drive back around 5 pm. | |||||||
