Visited by travelers from all over the world, Stone Mountain is one of THE best spots for sunset viewing in Atlanta. Sunset on Sunday October 26 is 6:51 p.m., so we will take our time to enjoy a leisurely hike. We will avoid the heavily used walk-up trail by taking a side trail through the woods to the summit.

We will meet at 5:45 near the restrooms by Confederate Hall for introductions and then head up the mountain. We will spend some time at the top taking in the view of the city and watching the sunset. This hike is suitable for beginners and those who wish to enjoy the great views from the top of Stone Mountain.

The hike will involve some steep sections so please bring appropriate footwear. As it will be getting dark towards the end of the hike, please bring a small headlamp or flashlight for the trip down to the parking lot.

If you do not have an annual parking pass, there is a $10.00 entrance fee to park inside the park. Free parking is available at Stone Mountain Village. You will need to give yourself extra time to walk down East Mountain Street to the West Entrance of the park.

Sturdy hike shoes with good tread

Directions To Confederate Hall Parking Lot:

To the main entrance- From I-285 take U.S. Hwy 78 East (Snellville/Athens) exit. Travel about 7 miles and take Exit 8, the Stone Mountain Park Main Entrance. After entering the main entrance, proceed straight ahead. The road will fork at about 1 mile - stay to the right. Continue to follow the road for another mile. Confederate Hall will be on your left. We will meet outside the restrooms at the start of the walk up trail.
