Do you really want to hike, but dread the summer heat? This is the hike for you. The beautiful waterfalls along this trail are not only beautiful, but a lot of fun to wade and swim in. This 9 mile hike visits waterfalls on all 3 forks that make up the Western Fork of the Chattooga River. (This next part of the description I have to give credit to a dear friend and event leader Bruce who wrote this out from a previous trip) This is a federally designated 'Wild and Scenic River' corridor; and when we get inside the borders of same into the wild backcountry that house all of the four waterfalls we'll see today, you'll see the rugged beauty of this land and enjoy their respective swimming-rock jacuzzis. Big Creek, with its waterfalls, is my favorite waterfall hike in Georgia; with the added bonus of 2 other waterfalls in their respective gorges, on this hike.
We'll hike to Overflow Falls first, a 15 foot rugged beauty, with fantastic deep swimming hole below the waterfall. After an extended break there, we'll hike back out an up the moderate 7/10's mile slope to the frog pond and trail to Big Creek/three forks intersection.

We'll hike downhill to three forks intersection, and enjoy the rock jacuzzis and cool waters below the waterfall on Big Creek in another break, and those who want, can cross Overflow Creek here to see the cascades and small waterfall on Holcomb Creek, some 50 yards in on the other side of the shallow creek crossing.
After enjoying the waters at three forks, we'll make our way up the short strenuous section to the upper waterfall on Big Creek, hidden in its own gorge a little over a 1/2 mile further in the rolling wild terrain. This waterfall involves a steep, careful (perhaps buttsliding) descent to get to its nice swimming hole at the bottom. After enjoying this beautiful 50', 3-tiered stunning waterfall; we'll make our way out the relatively mellow climb to the common part of the trail in and out; back to our cars.

If anyone is hungry there is an optional dinner at a truely authentic Korean restaurant off Pleasant Hill afterward.

Required Items to Bring:
2-3 liters of water
Trail snacks and/or lunch
Good supportive hiking shoes for the sometimes rocky terrain
Leader will carry a water filter for re-filling anyones water and medical kit as usual.

Water shoes of some kind for wading
Swimming suit for jumping into the nice swimming holes offered here
Hiking poles for steep up and down slopes on some parts of this trail
Gatorade, energy gels or gummies to replace electrolytes lost in sweating during hike
Towel for the ride back

From the Indian Trail marta park & ride lot, we travel north on I-85 north about 12 miles and bear left onto I-985 north. We take this all the way to Clayton where we get onto Warwoman Road and follow it until it ends at Highway 28, and follow it north a little over 4 miles to the trailhead.

Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $88.00 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Cost Includes:

Shared gas expense with your driver. The estimated gas/maintance cost of this trip will be 220 x .38 = $83.60. Please share this expense amongst the driver and passengers.
