Itinerary:

This is still Joyce T's weekly hike but she is graciously letting me do my first SoloTrip Leader hike at Island Ford on Thanksgiving morning. We will start an hour earlier then usual so you will have time to prepare for your Turkey meal.

We will cover 5-6 miles on the trail along the river, hit some of the hill trails and may even work our way over to the Lollipop Trail. Depending on the weather, we might briefly stop to enjoy the scenery along the river bank, but expect to keep a steady pace throughout the hike.

We will meet at the middle parking lot on Island Ford Parkway. The middle lot is 0.6 miles on your left from the park entrance.

If you do not have an annual CRNRA parking pass, you will need to purchase the $3 daily pass at the pay station in the parking lot.

We'll start the hike promptly at 9:30 am.  Please arrive at least 10 minutes early to meet everyone before we start, and/or to purchase a $3 parking ticket if you don't own an annual pass. The vistor center will be open on Thanksgiving Day and you can buy an annual pass if you want. The restrooms will also be open. Please give yourself an extra 15 mintues if you are going to the visitor center first since you will have to drive there and then back to the trailhead parking lot.

No more then 3 dogs on the hike. If you bring your dog, you must use a leash at all times. The reputation of the AOC is damaged when we break the leash law!

Trails can be muddy if there has been recent rain.  Be sure to have shoes with good tread that you don't mind getting dirty.  Waterproof shoes help, too!

WE ARE STARTING THE HIKE IN THE MIDDLE LOT ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE POND and JUST BEFORE YOU PASS IT!!!
