After leaving some cars at the end of the trail at FS 17B at an elevation of 1, 640 ft., we will drive to Betty Gap (elevation 3,100 ft.), where we will begin our walk. The trail fords the Conasauga River a total of 38 times. We will walk 5.4 miles on Saturday and camp at Bray Field, and should be back in Atlanta on Sunday before 6 PM.

Required Items to Bring:
  • Tent.
  • Sleeping bag.
  • Headlamp/ flashlight.
  • Lunch and dinner for Saturday, and breakfast and lunch for Sunday.
  • Trail snacks.
  • 1 liter of water.
  • Sandals or sneakers (to ford the Conasauga).
  • Hiking Poles/ hiking stick.
  • Rain gear/ poncho.
  • Shorts or bathing suit
  • Recommended Items to Bring:

  • Towel.
  • Insect repellent.

    Carpool Cost: Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $72.00 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.
