Itinerary:
This is a moderate seven mile loop hike, just outside I-285 off I-20 west. This is close to the longest day of the year, so we should have plenty of light to do this.

The hike in Sweetwater Creek will be a seven mile loop on their ‘white, blue, and red’-- (historical trail). This is a good close to town hike which includes passing by a small lake, and waterfalls, rapids and cascades on Sweetwater Creek. This creek is bigger than some rivers. Lastly the trail passes a large Civil War mill ruins on the historical trail. The Northerners burned the mill and removed the mill women to the North, but the brick superstructure remains. Then it's back through more wooded area to the parking lot.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:Sweetwater Creek State Park hiking trail parking lot, near the new visitors center. This park is west of Atlanta off of I-20 outside of I-285 past Six Flags exit and located at exit number 44, Thornton Rd. The park is a left hand turn off of the exit. Go over I-20 and about a half mile to the first light-Blairs Bridge Road (large car dealers mark the corner) where you will need to turn right. Follow this road a couple of miles to the Sweetwater Creek State Park sign (indicates left hand turn). Travel a couple more miles and into the park, over the Lake, and very briefly after passing the Lake look for a sign indicating hiking and other activities on road on the left hand side.

If you come after work and get there early, you may find the new 'green' visitors center an interesting place to look around while you are waiting.
