Trip Leader(s): Jared S
Participants:Jared S, Adel, Charina, parikshat, Tony Tennille, Henley

Write Up:

Our hike to Albert Mountain started at Rock Gap where we headed south on the AT. The fairly gentle but steady climb allowed us to set a great pace, covering 6 miles in 2 hours. Reaching the top we were rewarded with great views. Unfortunately, the lookout tower deck was locked. The view from the stairs was still superb. After a lunch break the group retraced our steps to the trailhead. We offloaded some extra weight and then hit the Wasilak Poplar side trail. On the trail we stumbled upon a group of female Ichneumon Wasps injecting eggs into a fallen log. Very unusual looking creatures. Adel's sharp eyes also spotted an interesting looking centepide crossing under his feet. After admiring the once award winning poplar, we climbed back up the hill and headed to the creamery in Otto, GA for some post hike ice cream.

Despite some low dark clouds, we lucked out weather wise. North Carolina provided us with pleasant summer temperatures, a slight breeze and no rain!
