Everyone arrived at the Silver Comet Depot on a gorgeous fall day ready to ride. Everyone did an excellent job of packing light, so loading the gear trucks was easy. Francisco had his first flat not long after departure and apart from a difficult tire it was easily fixed. The second flat however was not as easy. Apparently the tire was still smarting because it was much less cooperative. On his third flat Francisco nearly decided to call in the cavalry, but luckily there was a repair shop right next to the trail not 1/4 mile away. The replaced his hub tape, changed his flat, and sent him on his way.

Without further incident we arrived to the campsite to find that the drivers-turned-chefs had been very busy. Having sandwiches ready to eat was much appreciated by the weary riders. After setting up camp nearly everyone took the optional ride to the Rockmart coffee shop. Dusty discovered an interesting concoction but even caffeine couldn't revive all of us, so we went back to camp.

For dinner Pete cooked pizza for the group. The words "cooked pizza" sound like an understatement after having tasted it. We're talking roasted peppers, sauteed onions, home-made sauces (yes plural) and dough. All home-made and nothing out of a can or a jar. All of the care and work that he put into preparing and cooking made for the most delicious pizza this trip leader has ever tasted and I think everyone on the trip would agree. For dessert we roasted marshmallows, which was serious business for Kyle and Andy. Everyone was so tired from the ride, full from the tasty pizza and marshmallows, and disappointed with UGA's loss, we turned in early.

The next day Mary and Kim took the difficult task of following Pete's dinner. Of course they prepared a delicious breakfast. However while cooking Kim discovered that her dog Heidi was missing. She and I searched all over the campsite, which was not easy given the size of the property. Then a few things occurred to me: Heidi likes to follow us, several times before she had been waiting for me outside the men's room, and the men's room door closes by itself. Putting 2 and 2 together I went straight for the bathroom to find Heidi waiting patiently to be rescued.

Bellies full we went back to the trail. Fortunately there were no mechanical problems on the way home. Some legs may have been sore, but we all made it back safe and sound. It's worth mentioning that not only was this quite a nice group of people, but they were also very helpful with the cooking and cleaning. Thanks everyone for making it a great trip!
