The Labor Day weekend started way too early for our crew of 11 backpackers. Shortly after introductions and wavier signing, our adventure began. The first challenge to overcome was the very long drive to our trail head. After a couple of rest stops we made to our destination, Stone Door Ranger Station.

Archiving our journey in front of the sign at the entrance, we readjusted weight and took our first steps onto the trail. Unfortunately, this part of the center the trail was paved and our conditioned hiking boots were at a loss until our journey took us further down the path and the souls of our boots finally hit some familiar dirt. Along the rim trail discussions were had amongst members, old and new, and then a familiar site to Paula and myself from our trip here last year revealed itself in front of us on the trail, all powerful (smelling) pit toilet. We knew our destination had been reached. Temporary homesteads were chosen and we took our next journey to Greeter Falls.

At Greeter Falls everyone had a good time of swimming and some even jumped off a ledge into the water. The day was great, and for one person, Bryan, the day got even better when he found himself down the creek with a blonde hottie model having a photo shoot, who claimed to be “Miss Tan USA”, verdict is still out on that claim. However, being an outgoing guy, he did get evidence of his meeting with a digital camera picture taken by our own photographer, Kelly. All in all, everyone had a great day.

The next day brought surprise to our little group, especially to the trip leaders Paula and myself when our path took us to Ranger Falls for lunch. Last year’s trip was but a trickle, but this year we had plenty of water to play in and have a little fun. Afterwards our group split into two parts, one that wanted to go play in the water pools we passed earlier that day, and the other that went on to Stone Door. Everyone met back up that night for a nice dinner and fun campfire games, which shall remain nameless.

Our last day we packed up and headed back to the cars for our long trip back home, but of course not without stopping by a favorite Mexican place for lunch. Thanks to everyone that attended and made the weekend fun. Paula and I were very happy to share the weekend with friends of old and new, and can’t wait for the next adventure!!!
