We had a great hike! The weather could not have been nicer. We started off with a brisk pace down the moderate trail to the falls. We took some time here and there for photos but overall we made excellent time down this easy, riparian trail. We took a nice long break for lunch and to dip our toes in the cold water. As we chilled out we remarked at the number of campers… we passed tons of them on the way to the falls, and a lucky group had the prime spot, right on the beach in front of the falls.

From this point, our hike turned into a grueling several miles with some deceptively steep climbs. As soon as the trail turned up and away from the river, you could really feel a difference. It got a lot warmer and the steep climbs made it a real heart-pumper. Recent storm damage, erosion and cranky yellowjackets made passage challenging at times, but we finally made it!

When we got to the bridge we took a well-earned snack break. There was a real eagle eye on the trip; Dominic pointed out a number of trout swimming in the river, as well as some striped bottom-feeder fish most or maybe all of us had never seen before. If he had not pointed them out, we never would have seen them… they looked like striped rocks and moved about as much. It was neat seeing new wildlife!

After the relaxing break, we turned around for the trip back. Most of the group kept a very brisk pace, but a few of us decided to go a little slower to enjoy the environment (Pam says: That's out-of-shape co-leader code for "I was so tired and sore I thought I was going to pass out.")

We met up at the falls for another nice break, and could not believe that campers were still arriving. From the falls back to the campsite, we saw even MORE!!

It was a long day, but a great one! We had a group of very strong, fast hikers and the company was excellent. Thanks to everyone for participating, and we hope to hike with you again soon!
