Write Up:

It was a great day to be outside. A little nippy in the morning, but it warmed up fast. We had a total of 6 racers, 5 volunteers running it, and 4 cheerleaders.

At 9:45 I said "GO!". And off they went. After a few minutes, Jason, Foz, & I headed over to check point 1 and wait. This is after the hardest part of the trail going up and over the mountain. Pretty soon here comes Kevin asking how far behind Jason he was. We told him he was in 1st place because Jason took a wrong turn at the beginning. It took another 18 minutes for Scott L to show up in 2nd place, followed closely by John, Scott S, & Jason.

Where's Loren? The sweeps, Hilke & Vanessa, show up and still no Loren. They never saw him on trail at all. Hilke backtracked about a mile back up the mountain looking for him. EB was searching the trail over by the visitor center to see if he went back there for any reason. I had left a message on his cell also. After a bit of waiting for Loren to show up, Foz, Jason & I then headed over to check point 2 to wait for everyone to show up.

After about 15 minutes, Loren calls and says he got my message and that he had decided to do the trail in the opposite direction. After about another 15 minutes, I suspect that we had missed Kevin, so I head over to the finish line while Jason & Foz wait there to wait for the rest of the gang.

At the finish line @ 1:07pm, 3 hours & 22 minutes since the start, Kevin comes in out of breath, but clearly #1. Followed, much later, by Loren, Scott S, Jason, Scott L, & John.

At the finish line, John's daughter handed every contestant a small Coosa patch and a York Peppermint Patti. So, in a small way, everyone won. :-)

As it turns out, Jason wasn't the only one to make a wrong turn. When you're in a hurry, it's easy to do.

We decided a Mexican dinner, with beer was in order, so most of us head over there.

Everybody had a great time and wants to do it again. Below are everyone's times, in hours & minutes. I divided the group by age. The dividing line was calculated by taking the average of everyone's age. In the younger division, we have Jason, John, & Loren. In the older experienced division, we have Kevin, and both Scotts.

The official winners are: Kevin & Jason.
