Those attending were Terry Murphy, Christine Abrams, Ann Shelly, Ralph Howard, Jimmy Camp (campout) and Don Norton We meet early Sunday Morning to overcast skies and cold temperature. We arrived in North Carolina about 10:00am. We started our hike about 10:15am. even if it was cold we all started out in layers and the farther we went up the more layers came off. It did not take long to heat up. The trail starts out by going over railroad tracks and then starts to climb. You are not long into the hike until it starts to gain elevation fast. After crossing Ledbetter Creek which was up and flowing fast. We continued on up the Mountain where one of the hikers hurt their shin bone but fortunately it was not bad. After a short rest we continued on and the higher we got the stronger the water flow was. When we arrived at our first water crossing which was a challenge but we were not going to stop. After we figured out the safest way to cross away we went. There were several water crossings but nothing as challenging as Ledbetter Creek (after the bridge crossing). We almost got to the top when the winds started to get stronger, we decided to have lunch before going any farther. After lunch we all decided it was to cold and it was getting late, we turned to go back down. It took us about 3/4 the time to come down as it did going up. After the hike we went to NOC to have a wesser burger (hum hum) what a treat. We arrived back in Atlanta around 8:00 o'clock. Although we did not make it to the top all had a great time. We all decided this would be a great Spring Hike (so be on the look out for another trip to N C) with all the Mountain Laurels and Rhododendrom are in bloom. Everyone enjoyed this hike even if I did have it underrated.
